Hublot Goes Gold for the Big Bang’s 18th Birthday
Someone go fetch a Colin cake from the shop: Hublot’s flagship watch, the Big Bang, is turning 18. Of course, the iconic timepiece has undergone a lot of transformations over the years, but a new birthday model is set to take things to a different level.
Since its creation in 2011, Hublot’s Magic Gold alloy – a fusion of 24-carat gold and ceramic, exclusive to the brand – has been celebrated for its balance of aesthetics, functionality and durability. The watch marque emerged from the process with a truly unique 18K gold alloy that can only be scratched by diamond – which, needless to say, made it the perfect option for the Big Bang's big day.
For the Big Bang Unico Full Magic Gold, Hublot has used this innovative alloy on both the case and the bezel, allowing the gold hue to shine across the watch. The gold colour is referenced in the satin-finished and microblasted 3N gold of the indicies, counters and hands, while the deep, dark black of the pushers, guards, screws and rubber strap contrast with the case itself.
Beyond the Magic Gold and new colour palette, Hublot has stayed true to what Big Bang fans love about the watch. It has the same 44mm case, the same “sandwich” construction” and the same interchangeable rubber strap. Other classic Big Bang features – like the Arabic numerals and skeleton hands – also return for the special-edition design. The watch is driven by the UNICO 2 manufacture movement, which is thinner, more precise and more innovative than its predecessor
Speaking about the special-edition Big Bang Unico Full Magic Gold, Hublot’s CEO Ricardo Guadalupe celebrated the watch’s 18th anniversary, describing it as “a major milestone for Hublot, but also for the industry, in that it created not only its own look, spirit, universe, and technical achievements, but also its own large community of fans and collectors.” Guadalupe added that the watch “remains as fresh and carefree as the day it was released.”
Only 200 Full Magic Gold versions of the Big Bang have been manufactured by Hublot, so get in there fast.
