Year 2014 has been a year where a lot of us saw companies releasing wearable technology. Google released Android Wear OS and Apple released it’s own Apple Watch and no its not called ‘iWatch’. With these two biggest companies in terms of mobile dominance, traditional watch makers have come under attack and there’s growing sense of fear among the watch makers that they will be out of the market if they fail to react to the threats posed by Apple and Google.
Luxury watch maker Montblanc has recently released what’s called as e-Strap. This basically turns your normal watch into a smart watch which can receive notifications and messages and it vibrates every time you receive a notifications.

The strap in Montblanc E-strap is made of leather and has a touch screen which will be placed under your wrist. It connects to your smartwatch via Bluetooth 4.0 and draws in smart alerts to the touch screen. The display has a resolution of 128 x 36 pixel. The Montblanc e-Strap works as a fitness tracker as well, it tracks steps, calories burned and syncs all the data to a dedicated smartphone app.

The price of the Montblanc e-Strap will be $300 which is higher than Moto 360 ($249) and cheaper than the Apple Watch which will start at $349.
It’s a good move by Montblanc but will it work or not we will have wait and see that. And as we have entered 2015 we will see even more companies releasing smartwatches which is good for us as we have got more choices to choose from !
In my opinion I don’t necessarily think traditional watch makers will be kicked out of the market or anything even close to it as there are many people around the world including myself who likes to have a collection of watches and wear traditional watches not just to tell time and date but also as a fashion statement but that’s just my opinion.
