The external build quality of these watches makes them ideally suited to daily wear. With their lightweight, scratch-resistant titanium cases (measuring 42.8mm across and between 14.7mm (SSH063, 067, 069) and 14.9mm (the SSH071 with green ceramic bezel) thick) are water-resistant to 200 meters. That is particularly impressive when you consider that these are watches that get their time updates via airwaves. Gone are the days when such remote-controlled accuracy required water-resistance to be significantly reduced.

Seiko’s contribution to the development of the chronograph is well known thanks to the 1969 release of Caliber 6139, the world’s first automatic chronograph with a column wheel and vertical clutch. In fact, however, the history of Seiko’s chronographs started long before, with a pocket watch chronograph made in the early 1940’s. Today, this long and proud tradition in the measurement of elapsed time is celebrated in two new automatic chronographs that commemorate two landmark watches, from 1964 and 1969. Seiko Prospex wins the Sports Watch Prize at the 2018 Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève. The Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève is the industry's most coveted honor and the annual award ceremony is widely seen as the watch industry's "Oscars". On November 9, the 2018 Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève award ceremony took place at the Théatre du Léman in Geneva. There were twelve prizes for specific categories and five other prizes were also awarded for a range of other horological achievements. From a short list of six in the sports category, the jury of 29 watch and luxury experts selected the Seiko Prospex 1968 Diver's Re-creation as the best sports watch of the year.
