When the Speedmaster was landing on the moon in 1969, automatic chronograph watches were just being released to the public . It wasn’t until 1985, when Reinhard Furrer wore a Sinn 142 on a D1 mission (STS-61, Challenger), that an automatic chronograph was worn in space. Over the years, the Sinn 142 has created a strong following of watch collectors who admire not only its technical achievements but the fact that it was the first automatic chronograph in space.

For almost 20 years, the Sinn 142s place in the timeline of watch history has been an accepted fact. One random post on a military watch forum, however, would lead to a series of events, which would rewrite this piece
of history.

Pogue during this eighty-four day mission between November 16, 1973, and February 8, 1974, traveling around the Earth 1214 times for a total of thirty-four million miles
