NOMOS Metro Wins Once Again
NOMOS just won another design award for one of their timepieces. This time, the brand from Glashütte received the iF Product Design Award for their Metro watch. NOMOS received iF Product Design Awards in previous years as well, for their Zürich (2012), Tangomat GMT Plus (2013), and Ahoi (2014).
According to the official press release, “The iF Product Design Award has been bestowed upon outstanding design achievements for the last 60 years and belongs to the oldest and most renowned prizes worldwide. It recognizes “modern icons”—recipients of the iF label awarded by the international expert jury have successfully demonstrated that the design of their products creates added value. This award represents, therefore, not only recognition for the producers, but also gives the customers a reliable evaluation of the product.”
Even though the iF Product Design Award is one of the most renowned prizes world wide, the tricky part lays in the fact that NOMOS won for the 4th time in the last 4 years. NOMOS is honoured with this prestigious design award of course, but if you receive it for the 4th time in a row, is it still a proper benchmark? Since the NOMOS Metro timepiece also won two other prizes, the German Design Award and the Good Design Award, we can safely assume that benchmarking isn’t an issue in this case.
