I was out walking this morning, doing no fancy movements with my arms, just the normal strolling pendulum. And, all of a sudden I see my watch fly away forward on its own and crashing down on the asphalt. I actually screamed a little bit (yes, I am a (little bit too) grown man of 36 years). I picked it up immediately as if the road was made of pestilence and not asphalt. What had happened was that one of the link pins, the first one you could say, where the bracelet starts "bending", had just disappeared and thus made the watch go tumbling in the air instead of staying put. I looked around after the pin, but couldn't find it. Then I started checking the watch. It seems as if it just got some fairly large scratches. Nothing damaged on the crystals and the actual movement seems to have survived. Here's an image.
Some fat scratches on the bezel between 63 and 66 and a small ding on the side of the bezel by "68", as well as a big chunk of metal disappeared from the side of the case. Otherwise, problem-free. :/
I got home and sent an e-mail to Steinhart immediately. I wonder if this will be covered by the warranty. I would need a new pin, and perhaps a new bracelet if the link is damaged. And while they're at it, they could get me a new case and bezel as well.
