Chopard Unveils L.U.C QF Jubilee Watch For 25 Years Of in house Watchmaking
Chopard is celebrating 25 years of in-house watch manufacturing with the L.U.C QF Jubilee timepiece. The Swiss luxury brand says the new watch “ideally sums up” the three core values that represents its adherence to the highest standards of haute horlogerie: technical performance, aesthetic refinement and an enduring attachment to certified watchmaking.
The watch is available in a limited edition of 25 pieces. It was unveiled Friday in advance of the Watches & Wonders Geneva luxury watch fair, which is being held virtually because of the coronavirus pandemic, April 7 – 13.
The 39mm steel watch with its legible sector dial and responsibly sourced calfskin leather strap is powered by the L.U.C 96.09-L automatic movement with a 65-hour power reserve. The watch, designed in tribute to the founding of Chopard Manufacture in 1996, is certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute and the Fleurier Quality Foundation. The latter is considered by Swiss watch industry professionals in some circles to be the most demanding watch certification process. In order to get this certification, watches must:
* Be 100% manufactured in Switzerland,
* Exceed quality standards for reliability, precision and durability,
* Exceed haute horlogerie criteria for its finishes.
This new timepiece features the proportions and curved lines inspired by an L.U.Chopard model dating from the 1950s. It is the first time stainless steel is used for an L.U.C watch certified by the Fleurier Quality Foundation. Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, Chopard co-president says the use of stainless steel offers “a sporty and casual interpretation of the L.U.C collection.”
The sector dial being used for the L.U.C QF Jubilee watch is inspired by the Art Deco and Bauhaus movements. It is built around several concentric circles enabling easy reading of the hours and minutes. It was once favored by naval officers because of its clear legibility. The sector-type dial has a silvered sunburst center with a chapter ring in blue punctuated by chevron hour-markers, and a silver-toned railway-track minutes circle with transferred black markings. The small seconds hand is at 6 o’clock. Super-LumiNova coats four main hour-markers, the round base of the chevron-style hour-markers and the spear-shaped hours and minutes hands.
The watch’s sporty, casual appearance is completed with the responsibly sourced brown calfskin strap featuring two blue bridle stitches echoing the dial.
A variant of Chopard Manufacture’s first caliber, the L.U.C 96.09-L movement with Côtes de Genève finishes is equipped with Chopard Twin technology featuring two stacked barrels wound by a 22k gold micro-rotor.
As previously mentioned, the movement and watch as a whole is COSC-certified and certified by the Fleurier Quality Foundation. The reliability of the watch is also verified by the Chronofiable protocol, which includes three weeks of age tests involving heat, cold, humidity, traction and pressure on the winding stem, magnetic fields, as well as recurrent impacts. Once the watch is completed, it is tested one last time on the Fleuritest simulator, designed to reproduce the conditions under which the watch is worn on the wrist for 24 hours. Watches that pass this testing regimen receive the “FQF Haute Horlogerie quality certification” label.
