The Tudor Prince Chronograph One for Only Watch 2023 was an obvious choice for one of our picks. Tudor always brings one of the most anticipated lots, but this year, the brand has done something rather interesting. Just when we thought Tudor was running out of back-catalog opportunities to mine, we see a new version of the “Chrono-Time.” Many of you will see this and associate it with the “Big Block” chronographs (mostly under the 79180 reference) that were prevalent in the ‘70s and ‘80s. This new watch brings in attributes like a sapphire crystal, so I’d liken it more to the later 79280, but that’s just me getting into semantics.

Regardless, the Prince Chronograph One for Only Watch 2023 is hot! The 6-9-12 layout is back (okay, that’s not a favorite of mine, but it works here) along with a prototype column-wheel movement called the MT59xx. Interestingly, the Kenissi signature is on the movement due to its non-production nature. The 18K gold case is 42mm in diameter and features a matching bracelet. Will we see this one in regular production with more affordable materials? I think the odds are very high (Monte Carlo, anyone?). The estimate on this piece is CHF 25,000–35,000, which is openly laughable. Everyone knows it will sell for much, much more. I’ll share some inside Fratello talk — we felt this would be a perfect watch for Dave. He isn’t a fan of gold, but he’s simply too young to realize what’s right in the world.

F.P.Journe Chronomètre Furtif Bleu
F.P.Journe watches have been the darlings of most auctions for the last several years. I don’t expect any different at Only Watch 2023 as the Chronomètre Furtif Bleu is a lovely piece. Like with some other brands, this watch debuts several firsts for Journe. We have the brand’s first tantalum-cased watch (42mm × 9.5mm), and it sports a new hand-wound movement. The latter is known as caliber 1522 and is made of 18K gold.

Now, this Journe may look simple, but there’s more here than meets the eye. It looks like a normal three-handed watch, albeit with a beautiful blue enamel dial. However, when looking at the movement, the owner is greeted by both a moonphase complication and a power reserve indicator. Perhaps it’s “only” for the wearer. Notably, the watch will be supplied with a second case should the owner encounter any damage in the future. The estimate shows CHF 200,000–400,000, but will it hit seven figures?

Chopard L.U.C 1860 Only Watch 2023 Edition
Would you believe that the L.U.C 1860 for Only Watch 2023 is my favorite piece in the collection? For whatever reason, this is the piece that hit me first, and I really love it. Essentially, this is a reissue of the first L.U.C piece from 1997. It even has in the 36.5 × 8.2mm case, but it’s now made in Lucent Steel and comes with a white gold hand-guilloché dial in an “ice green” hue. Scrumptious!

The movement is the brand’s 3.3mm-thick L.U.C 96.40-L with a 22K gold micro-rotor. It is a chronometer-certified caliber with two stacked mainspring barrels and a 65-hour power reserve. Speaking of reserves, this one is semi-approachable with a view of CHF 25,000–35,000, but it obviously won’t stay that way.

Girard-Perregaux Debuts an Improved Neo Constant Escapement for Only Watch 2023

Girard-Perregaux has been a loyal supporter of Only Watch since 2007. For the biennial charity auction’s return this year, the Maison will offer the Neo Constant Escapement Only Watch Edition

Modeled from Girard-Perregaux’s GPHG Aiguille D’Or award-winning Constant Escapement L.M. from 2013, the Only Watch edition serves as an improved iteration with new technical and aesthetic advancements. Attired in a 45mm, matte-finished, pink gold case the timepiece houses a symmetrical yet unconventional dial that showcases its inner workings.

Its caseback also boasts a practically identical design, with the front setting itself apart with an embedded golden track on the flange, skeletonized dauphine handset, power reserve indicator, black nickel-treated, and lume-filled indexes. Operating the timekeeper is an in-house GP09200-2196, a hand-winding mechanical movement providing up to 3 meters of water resistance, and a 7-day power reserve.

The one-off timepiece will be presented at Only Watch in Geneva coming November 5. It’s estimated to sell for 140,000 – 200,000 CHF (approximately $156,470 – $223,529 USD) and more information can be discovered at its designated webpage over at Only Watch’s official website.

Louis Vuitton Only Watch 2023

Einstein Automata timepiece

Albert Einstein is remembered as a genius ponderer. I wonder what type of personalized Louis Vuitton he would have come up with, especially given that Einstein is known for reshaping our perception of time with the application of relativity. At least now the watch industry has a better excuse as to why some mechanisms run faster than others. The Louis Vuitton Automata Einstein is a playful recollection of the famous physicist. It recreates in hand-engraved relief the popular picture of Einstein sticking his tongue out. The rest of the hand-painted dial is meant to suggest math formula chalkboard scribbles and other nods to Einstien’s work, such as Louis Vuitton’s adaptation of his famous E=mc2 formula for energy (used for the power reserve indicator on the dial). When the watch movement is mostly wound, the power reserve indicator says “LV” (for “Louis Vuitton”). When the power reserve is nearly empty, the letters shift to “OW” for “Only Watch.”

Piaget’s One-of-a-Kind Polo Skeleton Arty is a an Ultra-thin Masterpiece

Piaget’s donation to this event is a colourful and eye-catching watch from its famed Polo collection that pays homage to the “Hexa Grace” artwork of Victor Vasarely. The art connection is fitting as Andy Warhol owned several Piaget watches and they’ve always proved popular with actors and musicians.

As expected, this latest edition is faithful to the Piaget Polo DNA. It features the distinctive 42mm case, forged from 18-K rose gold, and the almost-square sapphire crystal. It’s an exceptionally thin piece with a height of 6.5mm. This is achieved by the use of Piaget’s ultra-thin self-winding 1200S1 movement that is only 2.4mm thick.

It’s unusual for a movement’s appearance to be the star of the show, but that’s what gives this model its unique appeal. This watch features a skeleton design that is enhanced by the manufacture of this handsome calibre. It boasts green, blue and rose-gold coloured skeletonised bridges that were all created specifically for this one-off piece. The effect is stunning.

The watch has the familiar graceful curves of Piaget Polo but adds extra colour and intricacy. The deep green and blue of the chapter ring and movement contrast with the rose-gold markers and hands, and there are two colourful straps supplied with the watch. One is blue and has green contrast stitching, while the second is all blue. Both are calf leather and have a gold buckle.
