Ken Noguchi is the youngest person to scale the highest peaks on each of the seven continents. Mr. Noguchi worked with Seiko to develop the Sagarmatha in an assault on Mt. Everest. One of his requests to Seiko in the development of the Sagarmatha was to remove the minute markings on the actual dial. He explained that the effects of altitude on the brain could make simple mental tasks difficult and something as easy as reading the time could be confusing with all the markings on the dial. Seiko complied and to further reduce weight and increase scratch resistance, they incorporated a ceramic metal alloy in the bezel to make it scratch resistant.
