The standard issue for Agent 007 since the movie "Goldeneye" in 1995, the OMEGA Seamaster Professional " James Bond " remains a classic watch even if the original OMEGA calibre 1120-shod model has given way to one powered by the calibre 2500 Co-Axial movement. This though is a special dedication to the model 2531.80.00 which started it all, the elegant design of which renders it an almost timeless quality.
A genuine diver’s watch, its’ COSC-certified movement offers a 42-hour power that bears indication of its’ supreme precision, as the "Professional" legend suggests. The release of the OMEGA Seamaster 300m GMT, model reference 2534.50 celebrated 50 Years of OMEGA’s achievements in sport and adventure in the Seamaster line of watches. This special version of the legendary Seamaster is equipped with COSC-certified, self-winding OMEGA calibre 1128 movement with circular graining, rhodium-plated finish and the decorative Geneva waves. A desirable feature of the Seamaster GMT is the second time zone display. At the same time, the red arrow-tipped 24-hour hand allows the traveller to check the time back home on the 24-hour scale of the turning bezel. The functionality of the watch is enhanced since a third time zone may be displayed by use of the bidirectional turning bezel. In keeping with its’ sibling, the highly successful diver chronometer, the luminous ‘sword’ hands, dial and large hour markers which sit under the domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal offer excellent legibility. Water resistance to 300 meters is offered by the crew-in crown and caseback and unique to the black dial GMT model is the engraved legend which reads 50 YEARS. Available with a stainless steel bracelet, originally issued in either the Bond or Speedmaster-style, it is now only produced with the latter. The lug width of 20mm however allows a rubber or leather strap to be used in conjunction with the watch.

Having played its’ part in a number of commemorative issues and therefore no stranger to enthusiastic observers of the OMEGA Collection, the Seamaster Professional Chronograph nevertheless remains a distinct object of admiration and desire.
Encased in steel though a titanium model is offered, it has a unidirectional rotating bezel which has become an indispensable part of a divers’ equipment that is essential for survival. The bezel of the model 2594.52.00 has its’ ring in black aluminium. This perfectly complements the black dial of the watch with its’ large, luminous hour markers and luminous “ sword ” hands.
To accompany these on the dial are chronograph totalisers for 30 minutes at 3 o'clock, 12 hours at 6 o'clock, small seconds at 9 o'clock along with a date window at 6 o'clock. Ensuring clarity of vision and protecting all these is the domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. In keeping with its’ use as a divers’ watch, there is a screw-in crown with O-ring gasket and decompression ring, screw-in case back to ascertain water resistance down to an equivalent depth of 300m/1,000ft. A helium escape valve at 10 o'clock is provided for use by professional deepsea divers. The OMEGA calibre 3303 self-winding column-wheel chronograph movement with an official chronometer certification provides a generous 55-hour power reserve while featuring a stop-seconds function and OMEGA free sprung-balance.

This is the America's Cup Limited Edition of 2000 produced in a numbered series. The 1120 movement is enhanced with circular graining and decorated with Geneva Waves and a rhodium-plated finish. Officially-certified to chronometer standards, the case in company with other SMPs is water-resistant to 300meters and fitted with a unidirectional rotating bezel featuring an 18k white gold ring with raised hour markers. Individually-numbered on the caseback with the legend Limited Edition engraved on the right hand lug, the America's Cup logo is featured against the familiar black wave pattern on the dial, the luminescent sword hands and large hour markers which made its' sister model, the 2254.50, such a popular companion to many divers worldwide. It was issued either with a stainless steel bracelet with a safety clasp or an integrated rubber strap with deployment clasp.

A special jewelry edition of the classic “ Bond Edition ” of the OMEGA Seamaster Professional Diver was produced in 1998. The models were in either yellow or white 18-carat gold and featured a skeletonized version of the movement, each part of which was individually crafted and engraved by hand.
The dial of this 300m-rated watch was in enamel with the OMEGA symbol at 12 o’clock with the word Seamaster and the hippocampus in the 6 o’clock position. A domed, anti-reflective sapphire crystal displays this and a front view of the highly-decorative skeleton movement.

Inimitable, unmistakable, the OMEGA Seamaster GMT model 2538.20.00, a desirable and reliable sporty timepiece designed with an emphasis on the needs of the traveller. The familiar Seamaster case in stainless steel with its’ diameter of 41mm bears the timeless characteristics of a proven and seasoned campaigner though with some subtle individual touches. The steel bezel is on a grey aluminium ring with a 24-hour scale. It is a perfect complement to the white dial which sits beneath the domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal. On it are the instantly-recognizable “ sword hands ” both of which have luminous SuperLuminova inserts as do the baton hour markers. The central seconds hand is highlighted by its' red pointer and the GMT hand is prominently presented in red. The dial being a pure white shows the intricate wave patterns that are reminiscent of the sea and these are perfectly edged onto the dial as are the Omega logo and name. The legend Seamaster and chronometer are in black with the letters GMT represented in an attractive and contrasting shade of red. A date window at three o’clock completes the minimalist and purposeful dial.
Power for the GMT Diver Chronometer comes from the self-winding OMEGA calibre 1128 movement with GMT hand and rhodium-plated finish. It is COSC-certified and delivers a power reserve of 44 hours.

The OMEGA Seamaster 300m Apnea was develped in conjunction with the reknown freediver Jacques Mayol. Its’ stainless steel case measuring 41.5mm possesses a unidirectional turning bezel with a luminous dot at the 12 o’clock position. Beneath the domed, anti-reflective sapphire crystal is the dial which is available in either black or silver and features applied hour markers, specially-adapted skeleton hour and minute hands, all of which have Super Luminova inserts. In addition, there is a very distinctive red chronograph seconds hand. A special feature on the dial are the seven circular apertures which represent the apnea timing function. When the start-stop pusher at 2 o'clock is pressed, the apertures successively fill with red from left to right, each aperture representing one minute. Once the first seven minute cycle is complete, the apertures revert in succession to the background colour of the dial, thereby allowing a 14 minute cycle to be timed
Facilitating this process is the OMEGA calibre 3601 which is a specially-adapted chronograph movement with a power reserve of 40 hours. The screw-in caseback is engraved with the name of Jacques Mayol and is characterised by the “dolphin and man” motif. Water resistance of the OMEGA 300m Apnea is 300m/1,000ft.

The OMEGA Seamaster 1948 London Olympics Chronograph, while taking its' origins from the design of the 300m diver chronograph recalls key elements from the famous OMEGA chronographs used for timing the Olympic Games, such as the white Arabic numerals and the old symbol and name in red.
It therefore retains the Seamaster chronograph’s characteristic black dial and unidirectional rotating stainless-steel bezel with black aluminium ring engraved with minute markings. The buttons of the chronograph which is depth-rated to 300m are capable of functioning under water.
The sporty look of this chronograph is enhanced by the very individual rubber strap with new buckle and the distinctive Olympic Rings engraved on the case back of the watch. This unique diver chronograph was developed jointly with the crew who were double winners of the America’s Cup, Team New Zealand. The chronometer-certified self-winding OMEGA calibre 3602 movement offering a power reserve of 40 hours is housed in a large case measuring 44m in diameter and available in either stainless steel or titanium. It has a screw-in case back and is secure to a depth of 300m. The unidirectional turning bezel has a ring of steel, brushed on the titanium model and black on the steel version. For instant and perfect visibility in conditions of low light, the black dial has large applied luminous hour markers, quarter second graduations, skeleton hour and minute hands with Super Luminova inserts. The central chronograph seconds hand is red with a luminous point. The hands of the chronograph totalisers are red with hour and minute subdials located at the six and nine o’clock positions respectively. Of special interest is the regatta start timer which comprises of a semicircle of five dots which change colour at five minute intervals to indicate the time elapsed between the warning signals and the start of the regatta.

As you would expect, being a Seamaster, the watch bears the classic design attributes of the familiar and unmistakable case, curved horns to accompany the contrasting polished and brushed surfaces and the hallmark scallop-edged, blue bezel and dial. The “ Bond ” watch characteristic continues with the skeleton hands with their SuperLuminova inserts and the luminescent raised hour markers. Depth-rated at 300m/1,000ft, its’ protective screw-in crown and 41mm case houses the OMEGA calibre 2500C self-winding movement with Co-Axial escapement that offers a power reserve of 48 hours.
In company with the 007 motif on the seconds hand, is an engraving on the case featuring the reknown secret agent’s numbered designation which is also present on the clasp of the highly-decorative bracelet. The OMEGA Seamaster James Bond Limited Edition Co-Axial 300m Diver Chronometer is a numbered limited series of 10,007. A rather large number for a limited series, nevertheless as in the previous 40th anniversary edition, there will hardly be sufficient numbers circulating the globe judging by the popularity of the book and screen hero and indeed of this exceedingly-desirable timepiece.

Launched in February 2005, the OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean marked the first full-scale use of Omega's proprietary Co-Axial Escapement movement in the Seamaster divers' watch collection and has become a modern classic in its’ own right. Its’ attractive and distinctive recalls that of the first-ever Seamaster 300 metre model and completes a triumvirate modern equivalents of classic OMEGA watches which include the Speedmaster and the Railmaster which like the classic 300m watch, were launched in 1957.
Available in two different case sizes (45.5mm and 42 mm in diameter), the Planet Ocean models are readily identified by their bezels, with a choice between classic and highly contemporary styles. Meticulous attention to detail resulted in two slightly different bezel designs, with the larger model taking on a resolutely sporty look and the finer grooves on the smaller model offering a more subtle finish. Fitted to the bezel is an aluminium ring, one third of which is visible in its original brushed surface, the other two thirds in a choice of black or orange - a colour chosen because it is one of the most visible under water. The unidirectional bezel has minute graduations for the first fifteen minutes and numbers for the subsequent ten-minute sectors and a luminous triangular marker at 12 o'clock. Other characteristic indicators that this is a classic divers' watch are the watertight screw-in crown and the helium escape valve. Located at 10 o'clock and embossed with "He", the chemical symbol for helium, the latter allows any helium atoms that may penetrate the watch during compression in a diving bell to escape during decompression, thus avoiding any potential damage to the watch. The excellent water resistance down to 600 metres (2000 feet) is further guaranteed by a screw-in case back.

As Official Timekeeper and Principal Partner of The Transat 2004, OMEGA star ambassador Anna Kournikova was at Plymouth on May 31, 2004 to give the official start of the race which was to host the largest professional fleet that this gruelling transatlantic yacht race had ever seen.
Having survived a thrilling ride down the Olympic Bobsleigh Run in St. Moritz earlier in the year, Anna’s next challenge on her visit to The Transat Race Village at the Plymouth Yacht Haven, was a unique sailing lesson with fellow Omega ambassador Ellen MacArthur on board an Open 50 class racing yacht. Ellen herself was the Open 60 class winner of the Europe1 NewMan STAR in 2000, as The Transat was then known.

Designed as a robust divers' watch, the OMEGA Seamaster Professional has a solid and durable 41mm stainless-steel case with a screw-in case back and a screw-in protected crown that ensure water resistance to 300 metres. It offers several useful features for professional divers: a helium escape valve, which can be opened during resurfacing in a diving bell; a special clasp on the bracelet with a fold-out extension that allows the watch to be worn with a wetsuit and a notched bezel with minute scale that rotates anti-clockwise, allowing elapsed times to be recorded accurately and safely.
The Seamaster Professional GMT Co-Axial Chronometer was first seen at Baselworld 2004 and was readily recognisable with its’ trademark blue dial with wave imprint, applied hour markers filled with luminous Super Luminova dots and skeleton hands coated with Super Luminova. The red GMT hand makes one rotation every twenty-four hours and can be used to read off a second time zone on the 24-hour scale beneath the hour markers. This useful function is provided by the Omega calibre 2628 Co-Axial movement, a self-winding chronometer with a power reserve of 44 hours that is visible behind the transparent sapphire crystal case back. Since their launch in 1999, Omega's Co-Axial movements have proved worthy alternatives to the traditional Swiss lever escapement, offering reduced friction and, therefore, greater long-term accuracy. The Co-Axial movements also use the Omega free sprung-balance without index, which avoids the disturbing effects of contact between the balance-spring and the index pins and therefore ensures stability of the watch's going rate over long periods of use. This high-precision movement, with official Swiss chronometer certification (COSC), has a meticulous finish with circular-graining, Geneva wave decor, polished bevelled bridges, rhodium-plated surfaces and gilt engravings.

That model was depicted in a steel case measuring 41mm in diameter, with a screw-in transparent sapphire crystal back and screw-in crown that guaranteed water resistance to 150m. The matt black dial had triangular hour markers and Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock, all of which were in luminous Super Luminova. Sound familiar to you?
Let me continue if I may. Its’ dial was completed by the OMEGA symbol and name and facetted Dauphine hour and minute hands with luminous inserts. That dial was additionally set off by a simple polished steel bezel, which held in place a domed, scratch-resistant and anti-reflective sapphire crystal.
Unkown to most of us, the re-incarnated Railmaster actually began life as an “ Aqua Terra without Date ”
Everything about it bore more than a likeness to its' eventual form, save for the name on the dial. Its’ powerplant was the same OMEGA calibre 2403 Co-Axial Movement. Finally, on June 27 2003, it had its’ formal christening.

Introduced this very week, 5 years ago, the OMEGA Seamaster Aqua Terra became the first watch in the Seamaster range to feature the revolutionary OMEGA calibre 2500 movement with Co-Axial escapement. Used in conjunction with the Omega free sprung-balance without index, it maintains stability in timekeeping over longer periods. Introduced at Baselworld in 2006, the Planet Ocean Co-Axial Chronograph is the second-generation in the successful Planet Ocean series and was intended as the most resistant chronograph in the OMEGA collection coupled with being a high-performance diving instrument.
Exclusive to the watch is the self-winding, COSC-certified OMEGA calibre 3313 movement with Co-Axial escapement and column wheel chronograph mechanism and offers a 55 hour power reserve. It’s 45.5mm case of brushed and polished stainless steel has its’ chronograph buttons decorated with either black or orange aluminium rings and is depth-rated to 600m/2000ft. Visible through the domed, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glasss with anti-reflective coating is a black dial with highlighted white or orange Arabic numerals at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock and a date window at 4.30. Particular attention has been pad to the key needs of a boat’s skipper in the event of regatta timing with the “start of the regatta” function clearly indicating the ten minutes which precede the starting signal by means of a special five-dot indicator. The dots gradually fill with a different colour, first blue, then red, as each successive five-minute period elapses. The accuracy of a regatta timer cannot be overestimated as a boat has to arrive at the starting line on time. Arrive too early and it will be penalised thus negating months and years of hard work and preparation.
The 42.2mm silver and black dial has applied, facetted hour markers, with luminous dot. A recessed black counter with a silver surround at 3 o’clock gives a clear overview of the total minutes that have elapsed, with blue and red markings to indicate the two five-minute periods leading up to the starting signal. The smaller hour counter is situated at 12 o’clock while a discreet small seconds counter is at 9 o’clock. The skeleton hour and minute hands are coated with Super-LumiNova, and the hands of the chronograph counters are red. The polished and brushed stainless steel case of the NZL-32 has the distinctive shape and characteristic horns of the Seamaster line. The push buttons are on the left at 8 and 10 o’clock, giving the chronograph a balanced, harmonious appearance.

A seahorse, which is the symbol of the Seamaster collection, is stamped on the case back. The case has a screw-in back and crown, ensuring water resistance to a depth of 150 metres / 500 feet. Initially launched in 1957, the OMEGA Railmaster wristwatch was successfully reintroduced in 2003 and a new range was further launched in November 2004 which included this highly unusual pocket watch-sized model, the XXL Chronometer, reference 2806.52.37.
Housed in the familiar Railmaster case with its’ contrasting brushed and polished facetted lugs along with the simple polished bevelled bezel, the XXL Chronometer is of a similar size to a pocket watch and is by far, the largest watch in the current Omega catalog.

Launched in December 2006 following the release of the movie Casino Royale, the OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean Limited Edition had attributes which set it apart from the other production models of the Planet Ocean. The limited series of 5,007 pieces had a central seconds hand that bore a counterbalance which featured the 007 gun logo in a shade of orange. Made in stainless steel, its’ caseback was embossed with the Casino Royale logo to accompany the series number of the Limited Edition watch. It was made only in one size, the larger 45.5mm and sported a black rubber tang and buckle strap.

A stunning debut at Baselworld 2004 following the success of Aqua Terra and Railmaster chronometers of the previous two years was to echo the theme of the year, the Olympic Games at Athens. Hence the chronograph, that indispensable complication that was created to time the first of the modern Games in 1932, was fittingly incorporated into the Seamaster Aqua Terra.
The head-turning model 2512.30 is available with an opaline-silver dial and accompanies its’ stable sibling which features a polished black lacquer dial. Taking its’ cue from a recent model of the Aqua Terra chronometer, it possesses the striking blued-steel hands and facetted triangular hour markers which are also finished in blued steel. Beneath the domed, anti-reflective, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal sit the all important chronograph totalisers with the 30-minute chronograph counter at 3 o'clock and the 12-hour counter at 6 o'clock. Minute attention to detail is accorded to the small-seconds sub-dial at 9 o'clock which, like the chronograph totalisers is adorned with an elegant hand with a counterweight, finished again in blued steel. As with the entire Aqua Terra collection, Dauphine hands which include an arrowhead on the minute hand are coated with Super Luminova for visibility in conditions of low light. The dial is complete with the OMEGA symbol and name in blued steel and a date window at 6 o’clock.
The ample power reserve amounting to 55 hours is delivered by the Omega calibre 3301 self-winding chronometer-chronograph movement which is officially certified as a chronometer and bears a column-wheel mechanism making it one of the most prestigious chronograph movements in the OMEGA collection and indeed a rarity in the world of horology. Given their high level of precision in operating the chronograph functions, column-wheel mechanisms are especially difficult to manufacture and only a handful of the best-known watch brands offer them as part of their catalogs. The calibre 3301 is also fitted with Omega's proprietary free sprung-balance without index. This avoids the disturbing effects of contact between the balance-spring and the index pins and therefore ensures stability of the watch's going rate over long periods of use.
A screw-in crown and case back ensures water resistance to 150 metres. The Aqua Terra Chronograph is offered with a choice of stainless-steel bracelet and black or brown alligator leather straps with pushbutton-operated stainless-steel foldover clasps.

Our celebration of the triumverate of chronographs in the Limited Edition Torino 2006 Olympic Collection continues with the striking Seamaster Aqua Terra Column-Wheel Chronograph. As with the highly-exclusive Speedmaster Rattrapante, it features the Olympic rings symbol as a counterweight on the chronograph central seconds hand. The highly successful and sporty Seamaster Planet Ocean originally introduced in 2005 takes an elegant turn with the arrival of a new, Red Gold Collection. The use of this warm hue of gold in the 2007 Planet Ocean adds refinement to the long list of characteristics of this professional divers’ watch. Conceived as an evolution of the 1957 Seamaster 300 model, this version of the Planet Ocean Co-Axial is the first to be made in red gold.
The 2005 Seamaster Planet Ocean Co-Axial first caught the watch world’s attention with the option of distinctive bold orange details on the dial and the bezel. The following year, its popularity was such that OMEGA introduced a second collection of column-wheel chronographs. Today, the family has grown to include a Red Gold Collection.
The Seamaster family is a core range of OMEGA’s watch making heritage and its sportiest member. Associated with the seas for over 50 years and a favourite of outstanding sportsmen and women such as Michael Phelps and Ellen MacArthur, the Seamaster is a watch fit to match the most demanding maritime challenge. Characteristic details include a robust, waterproof case and a uni-directional bezel. We are reminded of the Planet Ocean’s design origins by the Seamaster’s traditional Seahorse medallion stamped on the screw-in 18-carat red gold case back, the uni-directional bezel, smooth link bracelet and easy to read dial.
The automatic version is available in a 42mm or 45.5mm case while the more complex automatic chronograph model is presented in a 45.5mm case. Both versions offer characteristics well beyond the requisites of a professional divers’ watch and are water resistant to 600 metres/2000 feet. Other features that distinguish these professional divers’ instruments are the screw-in crown and screw-in case back, the Helium Escape Valve, the fluted uni-directional rotating bezel and the highly visible hands.
Positioned at 10 o’clock and embossed with the chemical symbol for helium “He”, the red gold helium escape valve allows any trapped atoms of this gas that might damage the watch to escape when expansion occurs during decompression in a diving bell. The chronograph push buttons, made of red gold and decorated with a black aluminium ring, are functional to 600 metres/2000 feet while the domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal has received an anti-reflective treatment on both sides for optimum clarity.
Previously only available with a sporty matte dial, the Red Gold Collection is offered with a new elegant and glamourous semi-matte black dial enhanced by a red gold Omega logo. The applied red gold luminous hour markers are combined with Arabic numerals placed at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock. The date window is positioned between 4 and 5 o’clock on the chronograph’s dial while on the other models it is found at 3 o’clock. To complement the red gold facetted arrowhead hour, minute and seconds hands, white Super-LumiNova replaces the more common green material.
In the case of the chronograph, the sub dials for small seconds, 12 hours and thirty minute totalizers are placed at nine, six and three o’clock respectively and feature applied golden surrounds. The black aluminium 60 minute track ring on the uni-directional rotating bezel also features red gold details.
The chronograph version is fitted with the caliber 3313, a self-winding mechanical movement with a power reserve of 52 hours. The column-wheel mechanism serves to perfect the chronograph’s performance. It ensures a smooth start to the sweep of the seconds hand when the chronograph is activated and provides precision stop and reset functions that do not interfere with the main timekeeping of the watch.
The non-chronograph versions are fitted with the caliber 2500 and all the Planet Ocean Red Gold Collection features the Co-Axial escapement, proprietary OMEGA technology, that considerably reduces friction in the heart of the watch mechanism and offers improved long-term reliability and accuracy. Both calibres are COSC-certified chronometers and further improved by a free-sprung balance. Although the new models have a solid case back, the rhodium-plated movements have been given a luxurious finish: the bridges are decorated with attractive circular graining, Geneva waves and gold-plated engravings. The final flourish is a Seahorse medallion that decorates the screw-in case back.
All three variants (45.5mm automatic chronograph and automatic, and the 42 mm automatic) are available on a comfortable brushed red gold OMEGA patented “screw and pin” bracelet with polished sides or a handsome integrated black alligator strap that sits seamlessly alongside the case offering increased comfort and aesthetics. The foldover safety clasp is fastened onto the wrist with an easy to use release mechanism.

Launched in February 2005, the OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean marked the first full-scale use of Omega's proprietary Co-Axial Escapement movement in the Seamaster divers' watch collection and has become a modern classic in its’ own right. Its’ attractive and distinctive recalls that of the first-ever Seamaster 300 metre model and completes a triumvirate modern equivalents of classic OMEGA watches which include the Speedmaster and the Railmaster which like the classic 300m watch, were launched in 1957.
Available in two different case sizes (45.5mm and 42 mm in diameter), the Planet Ocean models are readily identified by their bezels, with a choice between classic and highly contemporary styles. Meticulous attention to detail resulted in two slightly different bezel designs, with the larger model taking on a resolutely sporty look and the finer grooves on the smaller model offering a more subtle finish. Fitted to the bezel is an aluminium ring, one third of which is visible in its original brushed surface, the other two thirds in a choice of black or orange - a colour chosen because it is one of the most visible under water. The unidirectional bezel has minute graduations for the first fifteen minutes and numbers for the subsequent ten-minute sectors and a luminous triangular marker at 12 o'clock. Other characteristic indicators that this is a classic divers' watch are the watertight screw-in crown and the helium escape valve. Located at 10 o'clock and embossed with "He", the chemical symbol for helium, the latter allows any helium atoms that may penetrate the watch during compression in a diving bell to escape during decompression, thus avoiding any potential damage to the watch. The excellent water resistance down to 600 metres (2000 feet) is further guaranteed by a screw-in case back.

A special jewelry edition of the classic “ Bond Edition ” of the OMEGA Seamaster Professional Diver was produced in 1998. The models were in either yellow or white 18-carat gold and featured a skeletonized version of the movement, each part of which was individually crafted and engraved by hand.
The dial of this 300m-rated watch was in enamel with the OMEGA symbol at 12 o’clock with the word Seamaster and the hippocampus in the 6 o’clock position. A domed, anti-reflective sapphire crystal displays this and a front view of the highly-decorative skeleton movement.

Did you know that Omega used Silicon in its' development of the cal 8500 because of the material's non-magnetic properties? Thus, the performance of the Si 14 balance-spring is not disturbed by exposure to magnetic objects. This physical property of silicon allows watches with the Si 14 balance-spring to deliver significantly better chronometric performance than balance-springs made of traditional materials. While the performance of mechanical watches tends to deviate over time as a result of small everyday shocks, these disturbances have very little effect on the Si 14 silicon balance-springs. There is substantial freedom in the fabrication of balance-springs made of silicon which allows the Si 14’s geometry to be modified for optimal isochronism, a factor that reduces the amount of deviation in the accuracy of a watch.

With the trend in the 70s much more in favor of larger cases with hooded lugs, Omega decided to launch a second series of Speedmaster models using the ' Mark ' designation to distinguish the line from the original 1957-originated Speedmaster Professional. While they differed in appearance, the Mark series as in the Mark II shown here was essentially a Speedy Pro as we know it though with different ' clothes '. Did you know though that for the first time in the history of the Omega Speedmaster, the watch used a flat mineral crystal with the tachymetre scale on the inside of the crystal.

When the Railmaster was launched in 1957 it was introduced primarily for the benefit of professionals who worked near magnetic fields. Omega had chosen the name to reflect the company’s longstanding relationship with railways. In the early days of rail travel, the high degree of precision achieved by Omega’s watches meant that these timepieces were the choice of many of the world’s railways. When electrification came to the industry in the 50s, the large electromagnetic motors used in locomotives presented a new set of problems for watches of the period. Omega’s solution was to encase the Railmaster in a mu-metal cage which protected the movement to 1000 Gauss, the only other watch capable of this was the IWC Ingenieur. This was a significant advancement as most anti-magnetic watches then were rated to only a maximum of 80 Gauss. Their resistance was thus considered low.
