Grenchen, Switzerland/Vienna - Swiss watchmaker Eterna was sold to China Haidian Holdings, the Austrian company that made the sale announced Thursday.
The deal is to further expand the business of the Chinese investment group, which already controls some 43 per cent of China's watch market.
The seller, Austria-based FA Porsche Beteiligungen, which bought the company in 1995, did not disclose the value of the deal.
Eterna is one of the few Swiss watchmakers that still produce its own mechanical timepieces.
The company is based in the town of Grenchen and collected some 12 million Swiss francs (14 million dollars) in revenues last year, according to media reports.
FA Porsche Beteiligungen is owned by a member of the Porsche automotive family, which is a major shareholder in the German Volkswagen group.
