CALIBER 9001
With an entirely new model line comes an entirely new caliber - the 9001. The 9001 is the most complex Rolex caliber made today (seven patents on the movement alone!), and one of the most complex ever made by the brand. It is, of course, completely COSC certified , with a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour, a parachrom hairspring, paraflex shock absorbers, and large variable inertia balance wheel. The power reserve of the caliber 9001 is an impressive 72 hours, and even with the SAROS annual calendar and RING COMMAND system, this movement is Rolex-robust, which is to say, it's about as robust as any mechanical watch movement in the world.
With 14 patents – five of which are new – the Sky-Dweller provides, in an unprecedented and highly original way, the information global travellers need to easily keep track of time: a dual time zone, with local time read via centre hands and a reference time display in 24-hour format read via a rotating off-centre disc visible on the dial; a particularly innovative annual calendar named Saros – in tribute to the astronomical phenomenon which inspired it – that requires only one date adjustment a year, when the month changes from February to March; and a month display by means of 12 discreet apertures around the circumference of the dial.
